June 25 - 30
I guided on Red Willow with my clients and we caught 40 Nebraska
Master Angler fish including 34 wipers (24" to 35"), 4 channel
catfish (30" to 34"), 1 largemouth bass (23.5"), and 1
walleye (30"). Most of them were caught on live shiners except the 30' walleye,
a 31" wiper and a 34" catfish, which were caught on a 1.5 oz.
spinnerbait, The largemouth bass was taken on a deep diving crankbait. We
fished around main lake points and underwater humps in depths of 25 feet or
less with shad in the area. The average water temperature is in the mid 70s
right now.
June 23 and 24
I guided on Red Willow and caught five Master Angler wipers
(32",31",29",27",and 26"). The 32-incher
weighed 17 lbs. 8 oz., and the 31-incher weighed 14 lbs. 12 oz. We also
caught lots of 15- to 23-inch wipers. They were all caught on live
shiners in depths of 25 feet or less around underwater humps and main lake
points. We also caught four walleye up to 18 inches in the same
locations. I had to cover a lot of water quickly to find the shad
and work the areas hard by staying on top of them. The water
temperature is in the mid 70s.
June 14 - 20
I guided on Swanson Lake and my clients and I caught 23 Master
Angler wipers (24" to 28") during that stretch. We caught the fish
on live shiners and crankbaits. Most of them were caught in water 15 feet
deep or less around main lake points and humps. We also caught walleye up
to 26 inches on the same baits in the same locations.
On June 14 I guided on Red Willow and boated two Master Angler wipers (29"
and 24") and nine others measuring 20 to 23 inches on
shiners. The 24-incher took a 1 1/2 oz. spinnerbait. Most of the
wipers were caught around main lake points and underwater humps in 25 feet
or less.
I guided on Red Willow in the afternoon of June 18, after fishing Swanson
in the morning. My clients and I decided to fish Red Willow for trophy
wipers and caught three Master Anglers (28.5", 28" and 25").
The largest one came on a 2 oz. spinnerbait and the other two came on
shiners around underwater humps and main lake points in 25 feet or less. The
water temperature average is in the low 70s, and the lake water level is
dropping due to the start of irrigation season.
June 9 - 13
I continue to fish on Swanson where catching numbers of fish is very
good right now. My clients and I are getting 30 to 50 wipers per day on live
shiners. These fish average 20" to 23" with a few Master Angler
fish mixed in. We're catching walleyes on the shiners too. They're going
15" to 20", and we're getting some big ones up to 27" as
well.
The baitfish are scattered on Red Willow right now, so catching wipers
over there is tougher. There aren't any small shad for them to eat yet, so
the smaller fish are a bit skinny. The big fish are nice and fat and feeding
on big shad, but they're scattered like the baitfish.
June 8
Guided on Swanson Lake and caught lots of Walleye (15" to
27.5") on shiners and jig with 4" plastic worm around humps and
points in depth of 15 feet or less. Also caught wipers up to 25" on
live shiners in same locations as walleye. Water temperature is in low 60s.
June 6, 7
Guided on Red Willow and we caught Wipers up to 30 inches (three
Master Anglers at 30", 28.5", 26") on live shiners and
topwater plugs around underwater humps and main lakes points. Walleye up to
18inches on shiners in same locations as wipers. Also caught largemouth bass
(12" to 18 ") on topwater plugs over weedbeds around mains
lakes points. Surface temp is in low 60s.
June 4, 5
Guided on Red Willow today and caught wipers (18" to 29")
on live shiners and topwater plugs in depths of 20 feet or less around main
lake points and underwater humps. Also caught a 30-inch channel catfish on a
shiner next to a main lake point. Water temp is in the low 60s.
June 2, 3
I fished in the Angling Nebraska bass tournament of Merritt
Reservoir and tied for 2nd Place with 6 largemouth bass weighing 17.35
pounds. I caught the bass on a plastic lizard, tube and jig and craw around
weed beds and willow trees.
June 1
Guided on Swanson Lake and caught wipers (18" to 24")
and walleye (14" to 20") on live shiners and medium diving
crankbaits around main lake points in depths of 10 feet or less.
